For the past two years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to share with all of you here in Vancouver B.C. my love for Mexico and my passion for baking as Metate Bake Shop. Unfortunately, during these unprecedented times, I am not sure when Metate Bake Shop will return to your nearest Farmers’ Market. That’s not necessarily bad news, though. For a while now, I have been trying to come up with alternative ways to introduce anyone who will let me to Mexican culture, history and (of course!) pan dulce. The Sugar Skull Evenings last October as well as the Concha and Tortilla Workshops this winter both stemmed from this craving to diversify Metate Bake Shop. To be honest, I hadn’t really considered a blog for this purpose before as I really, really enjoy face-to-face interactions way more than online ones. What can I say, I love seeing your lovely faces at our events! But, hey, this might actually be an interesting and safe way to share a bit of the behind the scenes with you for the time being. Hope you enjoy what Metate Kitchen has in store for you!
In this section, I’ll be posting some of my favourite recipes. These will be recipes that I believe reflect my baking style perfectly: ni de aquí, ni de allá. After having spent half my life in Canada and the other half in Mexico, I now stand somewhere in between these two amazing cultures and so does my baking/cooking preferences. Provecho!

I am, by far, not the only one attempting to bring un pedacito de Mexico to the rest of world through the lens of food. There are some ridiculously talented people out there on the exact same mission. In this section, I’d like to introduce you to some of them.
This is where you pre-order your Mexican food fix for the weekend! All locally made here in Vancouver BC, all delicious.
This summer, Metate Bake Shop is transforming itself into your local tortillería! We truly hope this nixtamal project doesn’t just help support our hardworking campesinos growing this amazing corn back home but also brings some much needed comfort to all of us longing for a pedacito de México here in Vancouver, B.C. Check this section out to place your masa and tortilla orders!
